English society even in its 21st Century permissive context, is still dismissive of those women who openly sell their sexual favours as prostitutes, but does not so openly criticise the young, poor girls who marry older or financially secure men.

This could be moments later than picture No 7, it could also be days, months or years; there is reward on offer. Possibly the viewer is the invited participant.

Is she offering herself because it is what she wants at this precise time, or is it what she thinks her partner wants? Are her actions necessary to keep the partner from looking elsewhere for their pleasure & thus is she more vulnerable than the pose initially alludes?

To what extent are all women in relationships paid for their sexual favours, whether as wives, courtesans or lovers?
